Temper - first person climbing game

This is a first person climbing game prototype where you explore an environment using your movement mechanics and item pickups found throughout the level. This prototype consists of two levels, the second is only accessible via a high up teleporter. This is a barebones prototype so no game saves, no story, I'm just feeling out the gameplay at this time and collecting all feedback from players that also like 3d climbing games.

Move through the world by ledge grabbing, grabbing onto hand holds, sliding and jumping around. Interact and even drive around with the same natural system as climbing input mechanics. Current pickups in the playtest include small spears to throw to create your own handholds on the level, climbing picks to scale walls, and a zip line system.

Movement techniques:

Moving on a handhold before letting go can increase your jump velocity

Sprinting into a crouch will slide your character

Crouching into a jump will give you a higher jump velocity

Sprinting into a crouch and then jumping gives you a very long jump

Using both hands gives better chances of catching a handhold at speed

A single pick catches the wall, and you can shift a bit from that point

Having two picks lets you scale walls, use pick (trigger to open them) and jump on a wall

You have finite stamina while using picks, it recharges when on ground

You have finite health, it does not recharge at this time. Falling causes damage

Use spears to create your own handholds

Playtest level details:

Open panel and climb down into the level to find spear and pick pickups, there is acid at the bottom

You can climb up the machines and drive them, to steer use your hand to grab the controls and move left and right to steer while still holding onto the controls

Climb to the tallest section and grab the second pick

On the tallest section of the level, hit the switch and climb down and into the floating room, it will teleport you to a second test level

Second test level has a zip line system and zip line pickup to play with

The long booms are holds to swing on, there is a switch to activate them or they are automatic

Spears are needed at the final test level’s top section

Some switches are instant, some you must continue to use

Known Issues:

Jumping on a handhold can sometimes lock your camera, just jump and recatch the hold to fix

Ledge grabbing can sometimes fault

Handhold to ledge grab is automatic, needs to be an additional input from player instead

Ledge grabbing and vaulting need more polish, sometimes rotates camera backwards

The test maps are built with inefficient map meshes
